FG Establishes Climate Action Committee, Appoints Ajuri Ngelale As Special Envoy

In a move that signals his administration's commitment to addressing climate change, President Bola Tinubu has established the Presidential Committee on Climate Action and Green Economic Solutions. This new committee is tasked with coordinating and overseeing all policies and programs related to climate action and green economic development. And, in a stroke of genius, he's put himself at the helm. Yes, you heard that right—the President will be chairing the committee personally. Talk about hands-on leadership!

Adding to the impressive lineup, President Tinubu has appointed his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, as the Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action. It seems Ngelale will be wearing two hats, or maybe he just really likes hats. Either way, he'll also be serving as the Secretary of the committee.

And let's not forget the Vice Chairman, the Minister of Environment, Mister Balarabe Lawal. Together, this dynamic trio will lead the charge in transforming Nigeria's climate action landscape. The committee's formation was announced by Mister Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information & Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. According to Imohiosen, the committee aims to eliminate coordination constraints, promote a unified government approach to climate action, and ensure efficient governance. Basically, they're going to make sure everyone is on the same page, and that page is green.

In another green initiative, President Tinubu has approved the appointment of The Infrastructure Corporation of Nigeria (InfraCorp) as the Lead Arranger and Developer of Evergreen City, Nigeria’s future green industrial zone. This sounds like the kind of place where you’d want to pack a picnic and maybe even pitch a tent.

The terms of reference for InfraCorp include:

  1. Selection of partners and consultants: They’ll be picking the best brains to handle project design, environmental impact assessments, feasibility studies, financial modeling, and market engagement. It’s a bit like choosing the best team for a heist movie, but with more solar panels.
  2. Raising private funding: Think of it as crowdfunding but with fewer bake sales and more billion-dollar investors.
  3. Coordinating with partners: They’ll be working with development institutions and other providers of capital and technical assistance. It’s like the ultimate team-up, Avengers style.
  4. Reporting: They’ll be keeping the Supervisory Presidential Steering Committee on Project Evergreen in the loop. No secrets here, transparency is key!
