Google is gearing up to make Pixel smartphones in India

Big news from the tech world: Google is gearing up to make its Pixel smartphones in India. Apparently, sources spilled the beans to the BBC.

Here's the scoop: Google is all set to roll out these phones at a Foxconn facility in Tamil Nadu. And, because why stop at phones, they're also planning to make drones there. Because, you know, why not diversify?

So, why India? Well, with all the geopolitical drama with China, global companies are looking for new places to set up shop. India is like the new kid in school who suddenly became popular.

Last year, Google had already teased us with plans to make Pixel smartphones in India, starting with the Pixel 8. In a very official blog post, they said, "India is a priority market for Pixel smartphones, and we’re committed to bringing the best of our hardware and underlying built-in software capabilities to people across the country." Translation: "We really like India, and we're bringing all our cool gadgets there."

Fast forward to Friday, and insiders told the BBC that Google would start making the fancy versions of Pixel phones in Tamil Nadu this year. Google and Foxconn have even sealed the deal with a contract.

Foxconn, by the way, already has two spots in Tamil Nadu. At one near Chennai, they're busy putting together Apple's iPhones. So, it's safe to say they know a thing or two about making top-notch gadgets.

Apparently, Google decided on Tamil Nadu after some high-level chit-chats between state officials and company bigwigs. Looks like Tamil Nadu made them an offer they couldn't refuse!
